Gabrielle is a traditional sculptor, who carves and polishes her stones with craftsmanship. She hardly ever uses machines to manipulate the stones.
She finished her studies at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam in 1988. She was taught by Geert Steijn. She attended many other workshops:
Commedia Dell’Arte masks, by Juan Tajes
dry-point and aquatint, by Theo Eissens
model-drawing and painting, by Peter Schenk
clay-modelling, by Petra Boolmans
the craft of sculpturing, by Wijnand Zijlmans
bronze moulding, by Benzi Mazliah and Max Bueno de Mesquita.
This broad artistic orientation was extended by studytravels to:
Peru (1979, Inca culture)
Sri Lanka (1981, Budhist and Hinduist cultures)
Italy (1990, marble quarries & statue founderies)
Spain and Portugal (1991, marble quarries & statue founderies)
New York (1986 and 1993)
South-Africa (1997 and 2000)
For years Gabrielle has given sculpture lessons, workshops and modeling in her own studio, Negev desert in Israel, the Zondagsschilders Amsterdam and since 2020 at the Gooise Academy in Laren.
